Being overweight is not the reason for Painful Cramps but an unhealthy diet during the periods might be. Regular exercise and healthy diet will reduce the cramps. Remember not have an empty stomach during your periods, empty stomach increases the pain, it is a personal experience.

At 72 Kgs you are mildly overweight (max healthy weight for your height is 70.15 Kgs). Being overweight is a risk factor for painful cramps but it is not the only cause for it. There are many women who are well within healthy body weight range, yet they suffer from cramps. You can meet your doctor who can suggest some pain killers.
