You must take an emergency contraceptive pill(like i-pill in India) within 72 hours of having sex. The effectiveness of the contraceptive pill decreases with the delay in taking the pill. Although the chances of conception is not high during periods, but there still is a little chance and therefore you must take adequate protection during sex to avoid unwanted pregnancy. If you want to be absolutely sure, take a pregnancy test 5 days before your next period. If you find yourself to be pregnant and want to terminate the pregnancy, then you need to see a gynecologist who can prescribe you an abortion pill to terminate the pregnancy. Hi Adya, I think Aditi is correct! One needs to wait for only 21 days from the day of unprotected sex for the pregnancy test to be conclusive. And if someone wants to terminate their pregnancy, it is better to find out sooner than later. Source: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/948.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=127

As far as I am aware, sex during the bleeding phase of your cycle has such a low chance of pregnancy as to be infinitesimal. Unless you frequently hyperovulate and release 2 eggs in the cycle (rare, and egg would still be doomed due to reasons below).. As the lining of the uterus required for the egg to implant is now shedding during bleeding, the egg is unable to implant and the hormone required to help it implant is not at optimal levels. As the egg for that cycle was not fertilised, it would be well past its use-by date and unable to be fertilised. answered Oct 11 '13 at 08:51 Mischa |
